The Arab Peace Initiative, adopted by the Arab summit in Beirut in 2002 and endorsed by the Islamic Summit in Tehran the following year, has offered Israel the chance to establish normal relations and diplomatic ties with 57 Arab and Muslim countries in exchange for ending Israel’s occupation of all the territories it captured in the June 1967 war and the recognition of the independent State of Palestine with East Jerusalem as its capital, in addition to providing a just and agreed upon solution to the question of the Palestinian refugees.
